After a very grueling few weeks of studying, I think it’s safe to say that the worst is over! Now, to take my mind off the anxious period of waiting for grades, I will be starting up this blog again!
It’s been a pretty hectic couple of weeks. There’s a lot to analyze and a lot to think about and reflect on, but let’s take it one thing at a time. This song is an old one; by some standards, it might be considered ancient. But it has always stuck with me since a young age because the lyrics reflect more than what it seems. It’s from Mohammed Fouad’s 1996 album “Hayran” and while it seems to indicate regret and anger at life for someone’s lost love, I think it reflects regret and anger at life for taking people away in general, whether it’s through distance or death. The chorus, which says “Waiting on what’s happening, while you don’t have a care about anything or anyone” is, to me, a general but sad acceptance of this simple fact of life.
The reason it has stuck with me recently is because I found out a friend of mine is going away soon, and I’m having mixed feelings about it. I’m happy that they’re going on to do something that they wanted to do, but I’m not sure if I want them out of my life. As much as this friend is dear to me, I don’t think my opinion will be factored into their decision. The one line in particular that has struck a chord with me is this one:
اوقات بتاخدي أعز الناس, وأقول نصيبه وخلاص, واصبر على احزاني
Sometimes, you take the most precious people, and I say “it’s their lot in life” and wait on my sadness
It’s a lot to think about and a lot to take in, but since I know there’s little I can do about it in the end, I can just look to music to help me deal with this. Hope you enjoy this!

PS: for you music junkies out there, you’d be interested to know that this song is clear rip-off from Cat Stevens’ ‘Wild World’. While I find the lyrics in Cat Stevens’ rendition also relevant to my situation, I like the melody of the Arabic version better. Also, the lyrics are not the same, but I figured I’d give you all more bang for your buck since I was away for a few weeks! Enjoy!
